Paper Abstract
The capricious and uncertain environment due to COVID-19 has resulted in an increased focus on better approaches for detecting, preventing, and managing pandemics under extreme time pressures. As a result, organizations have dedicated significant resources for developing technology-driven solutions, e.g., Artificial Intelligence (AI), for tackling the healthcare crisis. Within this context, our understanding of the operationalization of AI in healthcare capabilities is still rather limited. In this paper, we propose a theoretical framework grounded in the dynamic capabilities view (DCV) that focuses on AI as an enabling technology. Based on the review of extant literature, we examine the role of AI-enabled dynamic capabilities within the context for healthcare and pandemics.

About the Speaker
Dr Umair ul Hassan is Assistant Professor in School of Business at Maynooth University. Before joining Maynooth, he has worked as Research Fellow in LERO and Insight Centre for Data Analytics at National University of Ireland Galway where he was Principal Investigator for the SHAREPAIR project. He has also worked on several research and innovation projects funded by the European Commission, Enterprise Ireland, and Science Foundation Ireland, including but not limited to Big Data Value Ecosystem (BDVe), Transforming Transport (TT), ICT for Water Resource Management (Waternomics), and Big data roadmap and cross-disciplinarY community for addressing socieTal Externalities (BYTE). Umair's research focuses on design, development, and study of information systems, that use technologies such as collective computing, artificial intelligence, dataspaces, and semantic web, to solve interesting business problems and to address societal challenges.
