Research for Policy Seminar Series
This session of the Policy Seminar series is on Wednesday 23 October - 11-12.15 - with Professor Louise Connell (Professorial Research Fellow in the Department of Psychology in Maynooth University and who is also seconded to the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform under the SFI public service fellowship scheme) and Claire Doyle (Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform) who will jointly present about their work together on how behavioural science can be utilised in the public sector to tackle environmental challenges and improve policy making
Professor Mark Boyle and Seán Ó Foghlú of the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute, in conjunction with Maynooth University Research Development Office, are organising a series of 5 seminars in September, October and November. The seminar series explores practices in Research for Policy, giving researchers from Maynooth University and the policy-makers in Government Departments that they have been working with an opportunity to discuss their experiences of working together and to reflect on what they have achieved and what they have learned.
The seminars will all be held in a hybrid fashion - in person in the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute (on the top floor of the Iontas building) and online. Tea/coffee will be available in advance of the seminars.
Details of the seminar series are as follows:
Thursday 26 September - 11-12.15 - Dr. Aedín Doris (Associate Professor and Head of the Economics Department in Maynooth University) and Roshin Sen (Department of Social Protection) will jointly present about working together with the Pensions Commission.
Thursday 10 October - 11-12.15 -Dr. Ian Marder (Assistant Professor in the School and Law and Criminology in Maynooth University) and Ben Ryan (Department of Justice) will jointly present about the work of the Criminal justice Open Research Dialogue (CORD) Partnership

Thursday 14 November - 11-13.00 - Professor Brian Donnellan (School of Business in Maynooth University and who is on a part-time secondment to the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science under the SFI fellowship scheme) will present some reflections on Industry-Academic and Policy-Academic Collaboration and will jointly present with Chiara Loda (Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science) about their work together on assessing the impact of the tertiary system on innovation in the workplace
Wednesday 27 November - 11-12.15 - Trevor Vaugh (who has worked in the Department of Design Innovation in Maynooth University and is now working in the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform) and a colleague from that Department will jointly present about their work together on designing better public services
The seminar series is aimed at academics/researchers and policy-makers seeking to understand how interaction between academics/researchers and policy-makers works and has been designed to enable those interested to engage with examples of such engagement that they may be interested in.
