Postdoctoral position available in Data Governance, Accountability & AI - MU Sociology & SFI ADAPT Centre

Professor Aphra Kerr (MU Department of Sociology & MUSSI) has just launched a call for applicants for a postdoctoral position in ‘Data Governance, Accountability and AI’ to be based in Maynooth University but funded through the Science Foundation Ireland funded ADAPT research centre (https://www.adaptcentre.ie/).
 
The postdoc will develop research projects that examine ethics, principles, and values in AI systems, audit the impacts of automated decision-making systems in a particular domain and help to inform better data governance, responsibility, and public accountability. They will also contribute to ongoing research on multi-stakeholder processes, participatory design, and civic engagement to improve digital content technology design, use and literacy.
 
The applicant should have a PhD in social science and a track record of high quality publications, experience writing research proposals and managing research projects, and knowledge of the evolving domain of critical social science debates in relation to the development and application of AI in different domains ranging from media to smart cities and health.
 
The postdoc will work in an interdisciplinary group of academics from philosophy, law, computer science and social science across 8 Irish universities and the relevant domains include the media (including games), smart cities and health domains.
