Staff and postgraduate students in Maynooth University were treated to a rare examination of the process of 'failing at fieldwork', on Monday afternoon, October 8th, 2013. Professor Peter Manning of Northeastern University provided a highly entertaining account of his thwarted attempts to get access to the Garda Siochana in order to carry out ethnographic research on change management processes in the wake of the Patton Report.
Professor Manning's visit to Sociology at Maynooth University was organised by postgraduate student Hilary Darcy and was sponsored by the Historical and Comparative Research Cluster in the Sociology Department and the Department of Law.
