The Citizens' Assembly on Gender Equality met virtually on December 5, 2020 for the second Work and Welfare Meeting. The meeting focused on the following topics from the Oireachtas Resolution:
- "To identify and dismantle economic and salary norms that result in gender inequalities, and reassess the economic value placed on work traditionally held by women;" and
- "To scrutinise the structural pay inequalities that result in women being disproportionately represented in low pay sectors."
Professor Mary Murphy of the Sociology Department at Maynooth University, delivered a presentation on Gender Equality, Work and Welfare at this online event. Professor Murphy called for an end to the male breadwinner tax and welfare regime in Ireland; for individualization of payments; and for a pilot Participation Income that values care and other socially useful work:
