I’ve (Seán) always been interested in both how work is organised and the kinds of choices we have to arrange our economies differently so that our societies are better.
The four editors were working together on a European funded project examining these issues – New Deals in the New Economy – and we gathered together some of the people we most admired and got them to write chapters for this book. We investigate the ways that equality in the economy and empowerment at work are interlinked – and we find that, while it might not be impossible to have one without the other, it is extremely difficult.
