On Wednesday the 31st of May Turn to Teaching and the Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) hosted a shared learning event titled Working Towards a Diverse and Inclusive Teaching Profession. The event was opened by Dr Rose Ryan Director of Access in MU and Dorothy McGinley President of the INTO. What followed was a selection of guest speakers, panel discussions and a round-table dialogue all focused on the history, the challenges and the opportunities of working towards a diverse and inclusive teaching profession in Ireland.
It was clear from the event that there is a great degree of energy and momentum of support to diversify the teaching profession albeit with very real and significant challenges to be tackled. What is clear is that Turn to Teaching can continue to play an active role in helping to create ‘safe but brave’ spaces for teachers to come together and feel supported, valued, affirmed and understood. We very much look forward to continuing this work and collaborating more with the INTO, the wider Turn to Teaching Community and the various organisations that were represented on the day.
