    BSocSc Community and Youth Work 1st year students join in solidarity with UN End Poverty Day

    Students were at the National Gathering on Wed 17th Sept marking the 10th anniversary of the unveiling of the Human Rights and Poverty Stone on Custom House Quay, Dublin.

    Maynooth Green Campus awarded prestigious Green Campus Flag by An Taisce

    Chairperson of the Green Campus Committee, and lecturer in Social Policy at MU, Dr Joe Larragy commented: “This award is a hugely important recognition of the depth and range of the hard work and innovative spirit of the several working groups that tackled each of the thematic areas – each of which posed its own unique challenges, but were essential in ensuring that our campus can meet critical environmental and sustainability needs for today and into the future.”

    Maynooth academic appointed to British and Irish government equality initiatives

    Seamus Taylor, lecturer in Social Policy in the Department of Applied Social Studies at Maynooth University, has been appointed to serve on government equality initiatives in Britain and Ireland.

    Maynooth Declaration adopted by 400 delegates from 30 countries at the first ever World Community Development Conference held 25th - 27th June at MU

    The conference was organised by the Department of Applied Social Studies in association with Community Work Ireland and the International Association for Community Development.

    International activists meet at Maynooth University to share ideas to tackle inequality at 2018 World Community Development Conference

    Poverty and marginalisation are deeply rooted and change will not happen overnight — but tangible results will be realised in time, with the right interventions, according to Anastasia Crickley, former head of the Department of Applied Social Studies at Maynooth University, speaking at the 2018 World Community Development Conference.

    Graduation Ceremony of Dept of Applied Social Studies Level 7 Certificate Course 'Community Work in a Changing Ireland'

    Maynooth University conferred 24 men and women from Traveller and Roma communities across Ireland as graduates of the Certificate programme. Speaking at the ceremony, Anastasia Crickley commented: “In a context where fewer than 13% of Travellers complete second level education, and only 1% or fewer go on to gain third level degrees, this is a significant achievement for the students involved. It is also a significant marker of Maynooth University’s continued commitment to access to education for Travellers, members of the Roma community and other marginalised groups”.

    Past Applied Social Studies students main organisers of the Ballymun Running Festival on 8th - 9th May 2018

    The idea of the various runs is to raise awareness about mental health and the harmful effects of alcohol. All races non competitive and on a looped track at Trinity Comprehensive School grounds, Ballymun.
