Including the counties of Laois, Offaly, Longford and Westmeath, the Midlands of Ireland is a thriving, vibrant region located in the heart of Ireland. Within easy reach of coastal cities, with opportunities for living, working, learning, enterprise and tourism, it is Irelands youngest region, home to 292,301 people, predicted to grow up to 318,500+ by 2026.
Midlands has a younger demographic than the national average with almost 50% of people under 35 years of age. Our regional employers are hiring across many sectors and there is an expanding network of Innovation, Technology and Co-Working Hubs distributed throughout the region. The Midlands also has emerging Research clusters in Life Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics, and Low Carbon/Green employers.
With lower childcare costs, rents and property prices distributed throughout the four counties, living is significantly more affordable than in much of the surrounding country, and particularly when compared to key coastal cities.
MidlandsIreland.ie is a joint initiative from the Local Authorities of Laois, Longford, Offaly and Westmeath. The project is an action of the Midlands Regional Enterprise Plan to 2024, and is funded by the National Just Transition Fund. Working together, and with the other public and private stakeholders of the region, our aim is to promote the Midlands region as a destination of choice to invest, live, work, study and visit – by showcasing our region and highlighting all we have to offer.
