Careers Queries and Appointments
You can meet with a careers advisesr to discuss any of your career related questions. Whether you are starting out and have no idea what you'd like to do or you have a clear idea of your next step, or you are somewhere in between and want to get some more information on your options. Appointments can be In-Person or on Teams. We're very happy to talk to students and we really advise you to come talk to us early in your MU journey (first year isn't too early!) so we can help point you in the direction of the information and supports that will enable you to make the most of your time at MU. Upskill Queries and Appointments
If you would like to find out more about any of the UpSkill programmes (SPUR/MUSE/Mentoring/Micro Internships etc.) book an appointment with the team through the Careers Connect portal and have your questions answered.
Placement Queries and Appointments
Placement consultation appointments can be used to discuss your placement related questions, such as placement planning, CV review, job application, prepare for interview, and queries while on placement. If your MU course is on the list below, you can meet with a placement adviser to discuss your queries. Send us a query or book an appointment on the Placement Connect portal. Placements we advise on:
- Chemistry Department
- Computer Science Department
- Design Innovation Department
- Economics Department
- Electronic Engineering Department
- School of Business
- School of Law & Criminology (general placements)
Placements in the following subjects are managed by the individual academic departments: Biology, Education (Early Childhood, Primary, Post Primary), Legal Placements – School of Law & Criminology, Psychology, Youth & Community Work, Social Work.
Using Careers Connect - Current Students
Careers Connect
Careers Connect is part of MU FutureConnect - your Student Skills and Success portal, and is your one stop shop to engage with the Careers Service. On Careers Connect you can ask questions and/or book meetings with careers advisers and view UpSkill Opportunities and search our Jobs and Events Listings. You can also set email alerts for jobs and events.
Current MU Registered Students (Undergraduate and Postgraduate)
Login with your MU login details
Once you have logged in to the system you can update your profile and if you wish, sign up for email alerts from us on advertised jobs and up-coming careers events.

How to book an appointment.
We use an online system called Careers Connect. You can login to this system by clicking this link, scanning this QR code, or going to the website http://mu.ie/careers-connect.
First login using your MU login details (email/student number and your usual MU password)
Then click on Book, the select Appointments.
We offer three two types of appointments, In-Person appointments and Virtual appointments on MS Teams.
Choose between In-Person and Virtual (MS Teams) appointments.
Select your preferred appointment type and click Book.
A list of available appointments will appear. If you see Book, the slot is available. If it says Already Booked, it’s not available.
Attending an appointment - MS Teams appointment
When you book your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email from the Careers Connect system.
If you book a virtual appointment on MS Teams, the link to join the meeting will be in the confirmation email.
Your appointment will last 20 minutes. At the appointment time, click the “join meeting” link and wait. The careers adviser will be notified that you are waiting, and they will then admit you to the meeting.
It may sometimes take a few minutes for the careers adviser to join the meeting (they may be in another appointment that has run over time). Please continue to wait or you can leave the meeting and join again in a few minutes if you would prefer to do this.
When the meeting begins, the careers adviser will have their camera turned on. You can turn your camera on or leave it off, please do whichever is most comfortable for you.
Attending an appointment - In-Person appointment
Your appointment will take place in the Arts Building, North Campus.
When you enter the main door of the Arts Building, the Student Success/Careers Service waiting area in on your left. Go through the double doors and wait in the waiting area. A career adviser will come to meet you at your appointment time and will take you to the appointment room. It may take the careers adviser a few minutes to come to meet you (a previous appointment may have run over time), please continue to wait and they will come to meet you and take you to the appointment room.
Appointments take place in Room 35,36 and 37 in the Arts Building
Your appointment will last 20 minutes.
At your Careers Appointment - What to expect
Remember that you don’t have to know anything about careers or what you might like to do in the future before you come to talk to us, making an appointment can be your first step and we will help you move forward from there.
You may have a clear idea of what you would like to talk to your careers adviser about, or you may be starting out an unsure what to ask or what to talk about.
If you have some questions you may like to write these down in advance (on a notebook or on a electronic device). The careers adviser will answer your questions and you can take notes if you wish.
If you are unsure what you would like to discuss or what questions you’d like to ask, here are some examples of questions people often ask us – you don’t have to ask any or all of these questions. Some may be more relevant to you than others, these are provided to give some idea of the types of questions you can ask us at your careers appointment.
- I’m not sure about what subjects to choose or to continue with next year?
- How to I apply for another course after my degree?
- I have no idea what to do after my course…how do I start to find out about my options?
- What is postgraduate study?
- I want to find out more about further study options after my course…how do I do this?
- How to I develop some useful skills
- How to I get some useful experience?
- I want to get a job after my course, when should I start looking for jobs?
- Where do I look for jobs for after my course?
- How do I do a CV?
- Can you give me some feedback on my CV?
- Can you help me with my job or course application?
You may have other questions – that’s fine too – ask us any of your questions and we’ll do our best to help you.
You can take notes during the appointment if you wish or you may prefer to concentrate on talking with your careers adviser. The careers adviser will send you the adviser will send you and email after your meeting with follow up notes and links to any relevant resources discussed at the meeting.
Using Placement Connect - Current Students

Careers Appointments
What to expect at your careers appointment
- Some General Information
- We run 3 types of appointments: In Person Careers Meeting, MS Teams Careers Meeting(Virtual), and a Phone-call with a careers adviser
- Careers Appointments last 20 minutes.
- Appointments can be booked up to 10 days in advance.
- Careers Appointments can be used to discuss any career related questions.
- Alumni users wishing to arrange a Careers Meeting please subject a Meeting Request query through Careers Connect and we will book you in.
Virtual – MS Teams
- Careers Meetings run through MS Teams.
- MU Students: Link to join the Teams Meeting will be in your Booking Confirmation email.
- Alumni (Graduate users): An adviser will call you on Teams at the scheduled time using the email you used to register on Careers Connect - please have Teams downloaded to a device in advance of the meeting.
- In-Person
- Appointment location details will be in your booking confirmation email.
- Meetings take place in Rowan House or the Arts Building on the North Campus. Your meeting room number will be visible when booking and in your appointment confirmation email. If attending in Rowan House, please sit in the waiting area in the corridor (you are welcome to sit on the small couch outside Room 2). If attending in the Arts Building, please wait in the Student Success/Careers Service waiting room and a careers adviser will come to collect you for your meeting.
- Phone-Call
- Please provide your phone number when booking your appointment.
- A careers adviser will call you on that phone number at your appointment time.
Placement Appointments
- Virtual
- Meeting run through MS Teams.
- Link to join the Teams Meeting will be in your Booking Confirmation email.
- In-Person – North Campus
- Appointment location details will be in your booking confirmation email.
- After meeting with a placement adviser, a student can expect several outcomes and valuable information to help them in their accredited placement. It is important for students to take an active role in the process and follow through on any recommendations or action items discussed during the meeting. Personalised guidance may include CV review, placement search strategies, and interview preparation.

Here you can view jobs, upskill opportunities and events advertised to students and recent graduates.
