Following two years of postdoctoral research with Prof Istvan Toth at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, working on the synthesis of self-adjuvanting vaccines against Gram positive bacteria, Vinnie returned to Ireland and took up the position of Technical Development Chemist at GlaxoSmithKline, Cork. There he provided technical and process chemistry support for the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Two years later, Vinnie accepted a position as Postdoctoral Research Scientist in medicinal chemistry at the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC), Target Discovery Institute, University of Oxford. Working in the group of Prof Paul Brennan, he spent three years developing chemical probes against epigenetic protein targets.

Upon his return to Ireland, Vinnie joined the Research Development Office at Maynooth University, where he provided support and training to researchers for research grant applications. He recently took up the position of Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Maynooth.
