Health and Safety
By nature of the work we do we are exposed to various risks when working with chemicals. In addition to complying with the university health and safety policy, the chemistry department has its own health and safety manual, which all members of the department are required to read and abide by. The health and safety of our staff and students is foremost in our priorities. Many of the staff are trained first aiders and fire wardens and we regularly attend safety workshops/seminars on topics that are relevant to all members of the department.
Our departmental Health and Safety officer is Ria Walsh. Along with designing and implementing our departmental safety policy, she helps to assist students with any health and safety issues they may have. She is a member of the University and Departmental Health and Safety Committees.
