Centre hosts Mitterand Breakfast with Czech Ambassador and colleagues, 13 Dec 2024

On 13 December 2024, the Maynooth Centre for European and Eurasian Studies and the Embassy of Czechia in Dublin participated in a 'Mitterand Breakfast' conversation about Human Rights and International Migration, held as a part of Human Rights week, when Czech Embassies in different world locations engage in discussions on different aspects of human rights globally.

Professor John O' Brennan speaks at MacGill Summer School, 17-19 July 2024

Professor John O' Brennan was a guest speaker and panel chair at the MacGill Summer School in Donegal in July 2024. He chaired a panel on the potential impact of a Donald Trump presidency and participated in a discussion on the rise of populism in Europe, alongside scholars and journalists.

Prof. Hana Cervinkova Delivers Public Lectures at the University of Vienna and Grinnell College, USA

Prof. Hana Cervinkova was a Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna and Grinnell College, USA in Spring 2024. She delivered public lectures on militarization and national identity, including talks on "Militarization and Nation-Building in the 21st Century Czech Republic" and "Legitimate Violence after the 'Transition.'"

John O'Brennan attends Krakow Workshop on the future of European security and EU Enlargement policy

Professor John O' Brennan participated in a workshop with other Jean Monnet chairs, on the future of European security and EU Enlargement policy at Jagiellonian University, Krakow on 17 November 2023. He also spoke to Euronews about Ukraine's prospects of joining the EU and how enlargement policy is likely to evolve in the years to come.

John O'Brennan publishes piece in the Irish Examiner "Rise of Far Right is a real concern for democracy"

Professor John O' Brennan published a new piece in The Irish Examiner newspaper on 27 November 2023, arguing that the far right constitutes a real threat to European democracy in the 2024 European Parliament elections, and that there are too many people across Europe who are very complacent about the nature of this threat.
