BBS Marketing Networking Event ... "A Marketing First at Maynooth University"

Thursday, December 11, 2014 - 00:00

On Tuesday, 14th October, a group of over 50 BBS Marketing students gathered for the first Marketing event of the year hosted by Dr Christina O’Connor, Programme Director for BBS Marketing at the School of Business. This event marked a First for the School of Business, with all three year groups together for the first time in the history of the BBS Marketing Programme.

It was a great opportunity for all of us Marketing students from 1st, 2nd and 3rd year to meet  up and share our thoughts and experiences on our course. This was the first time in the School’s young history that all three year groups of Marketing had gathered together

Dr O’Connor opened the event with introductions of the class representatives for the upcoming academic year, along with Industry representatives in the form of Maynooth alumni Gabhan O’Connor, of Accenture and Louise Lonergan, Managing Director of LC Gift. Students engaged in group discussions with both Industry representatives discussing placement and graduate opportunities.

I attended Gabhan’s group, where he gave us a great insight on how to prepare for interviews, and an understanding of what might be ahead of us when entering the world of business. He covered items such as tips for remembering people’s names, and how to structure and present CVs. Gabhan also extended the importance of good, clear communication in the world of business”.

The value of an event like this one for students within Marketing is viewed as an essential component of a Marketing student’s University experience, as according to Dr O’Connor,

Marketing events such as this one facilitates our students with new friends and new contacts, and ultimately provides a fantastic network for all of our students across all year groups, who in the future will work alongside one another when they progress into the working world of business and marketing”.
