Dr. Charles O’Mahony (NUIG) gives lecture on ‘Human Rights and Disability’

Dr. Charles O’Mahony (NUIG) gave a guest lecture on December 15, entitled ‘Human Rights and Disability’ within the LLM module on International Human Rights. This module is taught by Dr. Delia Ferri of the Department of Law, Maynooth University. 
 
Dr Charles O’Mahony is a lecturer in the School of Law at NUI Galway and a leading expert on legal capacity. He completed his Ph.D. at the Centre for Disability Law and Policy, NUI Galway in 2013; his thesis was entitled ‘Diversion: A Comparative Study of Law and Policy Relating to Defendants and Offenders with Mental Health Problems and Intellectual Disability’.  Dr O’Mahony previously worked as a Legal Officer for Amnesty International Ireland’s mental health campaign; he campaigned on the reform of the Mental Health Act 2001 and on the need to introduce legislation to repeal and replace the wards of court system.  He also worked as a legal researcher for the Law Reform Commission of Ireland for a number of years, working on different law reform projects.
