Geography: Identifying Healthy/Happy Places at MU

#MUHappyCampus
Friday, April 8, 2016 - 09:00 to 11:00
University Library Foyer

WHAT'S HAPPENING
The MA Geography class will be running a public mapping event on Friday, April 8th from 9 to 11 am in the Foyer of the University Library, asking students and staff to identify what they consider healthy/happy places on the campuses at Maynooth University. Everyone passing is welcome to take part and join this 'citizen' mapping event!

WHY WE ARE DOING THIS
Living and working on campus can at times be stressful and intense, and we all need to find a 'place' to go for some quiet time. We are interested in finding out more about where such places are on campus and how people use them for healthy purposes. In finding out more about the healthy spaces and places on campus, we may equally get some insights into places that work in the opposite way. Overall we hope that the event will raise awareness of the idea of a 'healthy place'; promote the idea of taking time out to tend to one's own health and wellbeing and, better inform wider campus planning and policy as to the value of promoting 'healthy places'. We will feed back information gathered to campus planners and student societies before the end of April.

HOW TO TAKE PART
Phase I: We would like anyone passing to take a few moments to mark on a map of the campus those places (indoor or outdoor) that you identify as being healthy/happy for you. In addition, you can fill out a sticky note with a short sentence that explains why you have that response.

Phase II: If you have some time, we would also like people to go for a co-walk with our MA students to a particular place on campus and to record that walk on a spatial video app (Ubipix) developed at MU. The result can be uploaded and shared via a dedicated website and should not take more than 10 minutes or so!
