Guest Lecture - Dr. Ioana Galleron

Wednesday, April 5, 2017 - 10:00 to 11:00
Seminar Room No. 1.33, First Floor, Iontas Building

The Centre for Digital Humanities at Maynooth University, An Foras Feasa, is pleased to announce a special guest lecture by visiting fellow Dr Ioana Galleron. The lecture will take place at 10am on Wednesday 5 April in the An Foras Feasa Seminar Room (Room no.1.33) and will be followed by a coffee break at 11am. We would be delighted if you could join us on the date.

Dr. Ioana Galleron is a specialist in Early modern French theatre (17th and 18th century), senior lecturer at Université de Bretagne-Sud (France). She is involved in the realisation of several digital editions in XML/TEI : theatre by Louis de Boissy, but also Dancourt or Destouches, letters of marine officers, dictionaries entries, registers of Comédie-Française.

She is mainly interested in the realisation of a semantic mark-up, destined to support computer assisted literary analysis; in this respect, she developed a classification of features of literary characters, and looks for identifying solutions for an automated tracking of topoï and motives in plays.

More broadly, she is interested in the epistemological questions digital humanities raise in the field of literary studies, and in the renewal of literary theories triggered by the new objects of study brought into light by the distant reading of texts.
