Maynooth University welcomes students’ return to campus next week
Maynooth University welcomes the re-opening of campus for students for the new academic year. The campus was closed in mid-March to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in accordance with public health measures, with all but essential operations moved online, and has re-opened gradually over the summer months.

John Hume RIP
We at Maynooth University are saddened to hear of the passing of John Hume. As an alumnus, teacher, and one of the architects of the peace process, his presence will endure on our campus as we remember him through the John Hume Building and John and Pat Hume Scholarships. Cocooning in Custody: MU criminologists team with Inspector of Prisons on report
On Wednesday 29th July 2020, Dr. Ian Marder (Maynooth University), Dr. Joe Garrihy (Birmingham City University) and Patricia Gilheaney (Inspector of Prisons) published a new report, entitled: ‘Ameliorating the impact of cocooning on people in custody’. Their report is based on a ground-breaking collaboration between the Office of the Inspector of Prisons and criminologists, which aimed to listen to and document the experiences of people who were cocooning in custody during the lockdown.
