MU records increase in CAO applicants for 2024/2025

Maynooth University has seen an increase in CAO applications for the academic year 2024/25. 
 
The CAO released national application figures following the change of mind deadline on Monday, 1 July. While Level 8 applications remain relatively static on a national basis, Maynooth University has recorded a 6% increase in the number of applicants. 
 
Several new degree programmes have attracted a considerable number of applications, illustrating significant interest in the range of degrees offered by MU. These include Sport Science and Health, Food Science and Human Nutrition, and Law and Languages. 
 
Other courses that have seen increases in first preferences compared to 2023 figures include: 

  • Finance (up 47%).  
  • Psychology (through Science) (up 46%).  
  • Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Chemistry (up 45%).  
  • Theoretical Physics and Mathematics (up 42%).  
  • Biotechnology (up 39%); Frobel Primary Education (up 38%).  
  • Business and Accounting (up 36%).  

The CAO figures released today follow the recent publication of Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings, in which Maynooth University retained its position in the top 90 global Young University Rankings.
