The Office of the Dean of Teaching and Learning announce the addition of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning

Ian Russell, the Student Engagement Officer has joined the Office of the Dean of Teaching and Learning. Ian has joined us from Student Services and is responsible for Orientation week, student handbook, extra curricular awards, liaison with local bodies and initiatives in student engagement.
The Student Engagement Office focuses on the

  • transition of students to third level
  • creation of opportunities for volunteering and community engagements activities
  • co‐ordination of the Extra‐Curricular Awards Scheme

and is complementary to the work of other areas within the remit of the Dean of Teaching and Learning.

Aisling Flynn has also joined the team in Rowan House as the newly established Experiential Learning Officer. Aisling aims to support the enhancement of student opportunities for short term work placement, service learning, community engagement, and undergraduate research, as informed by the University Strategic Plan.
The Experiential Learning Office will initially develop experiential learning in the following areas:

  • Community Based Service Learning
  • Enquiry/Project Based Learning
  • Undergraduate Research
  • Community Engagement and Volunteering, in conjunction with the Student Engagement Officer
