Professor Michael Doherty, Head of Maynooth University Department of Law, appeared on RTÉ1’s The Week in Politics show on 15 January 2015 to discuss the prospects for pay increases in the public and private sectors in the year ahead.
The programme featured a discussion on the issue involving Minister of State for Business and Employment, Ged Nash, Peadar Tóibín of Sinn Féin, and Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice.
Professor Doherty has written and commented extensively on low pay and wage-setting mechanisms. This includes his account of the John Grace decision, which declared sectoral wage-setting mechanisms in the quick food sector to be unconstitutional; published in 2012 in the Dublin University Law Journal 'Battered and Fried? Regulation of Working Conditions and Wage-Setting after the John Grace Decision'.
