Criteria for Campus Accommodation Due to the Impact of a Disability
You may be recommended for campus accommodation on the following grounds:
- Proximity: Where the impact of the disability is such that the student will experience significant and prolonged difficulty with walking even short distances to the university or might experience significant fatigue due to the impact of a significant disability. An example of when this might be appropriate may include a student with a significant visual impairment or a student with a significant physical or mobility difficulty.
- Accessible Accommodation: Where the impact of the disability is such that student requires accessible accommodation. An example of when this might be appropriate may include a student who is a wheelchair user who requires accommodation that is adapted to the needs of an individual with a physical disability or a student with a sensory disability.
This means that the following students can apply:
- Students who are deaf
- Students with a significant visual impairment
- Students who are wheelchair users
- Students with a significant and prolonged mobility difficulty which renders them unable to walk even short distances
Please note the following:
- Places on-campus are prioritised for students with a physical or sensory disability (such as vision impaired).
- First year students are prioritised. In many cases campus accommodation is recommended for the first year of study only.
- There are a limited number of places available and campus accommodation cannot be guaranteed even where a student meets the criteria.
- Where campus accommodation is recommended due to a disability, the room is allocated for one year only and students must reapply each year.
Process for Applying for Campus Accommodation Due to the Impact of a Disability
- Complete this online application form. You can do this now if you are a new student hoping to start at Maynooth University in September or if you are a current student continuing at Maynooth University in September. You must re-apply even if you are a student who was recommended for campus accommodation due to a disability last year or in a previous year. For new applicants, you must provide verification of your disability, which can either be a completed Evidence of Disability Form or a Medical Report with the same level of detail from the appropriate Consultant. It is only when we have all the required information that an application can be considered.
- New students starting in September (first year undergraduate and first year postgraduate) must also register with the MAP Student Advisory Supports. You can only register with the MAP Student Advisory Supports when you have accepted your place at Maynooth University and have registered as a Maynooth University student. All applications submitted by new students will be reviewed in August 2024.
- Continuing Maynooth University students (continuing undergraduate and continuing postgraduate), must also be already registered with the Disability Office. If you have previously registered with the MAP Student Advisory Supports you don’t need to do so again. If you have not previously registered with the MAP Student Advisory Supports you can do so now register with the MAP Student Advisory Supports
Applications will be reviewed by the MAP Student Advisory Supports Office and rooms will be allocated by the Accommodation Office.

Offer of a Room due to the Impact of Disability
If you are recommended for a room on-campus the MAP Student Advisory Supports Office will notify you and will advise the Accommodation Office. This recommendation is subject to the availability of rooms on campus. If at the time of the recommendation there are rooms available you will receive an email from the Accommodation Office offering you a room and requesting that you pay a booking deposit. You will be informed of the payments schedule and will be given instructions on how to make your on-line payments. Please review the information relating to booking fees and rent payments.
No Offer of a Room due to the Impact of Disability
If you are not offered a room as a result of your application for campus accommodation due to a disability, you can apply for campus accommodation via the general application booking links for Campus Accommodation. Please follow the instructions and be mindful of strict timelines.
