The collection contains limited and illustrated editions, autographed copies, printed after 1851. The collection also includes Archival Sources, College Collection, Manuscripts and Archival collections on microfilm and maps, pamphlets and the St. Canice’s collection. Large format volumes are held in closed access on level 1.
Special collections located outside the reading room will be available for consultation on the next day. Photocopying of Special collections material is not permitted. All items in special collection are for library use only and can be borrowed for three hours.

Archival Sources contain State Papers, Irish Manuscript Commission publications as well as items on microfilm such as the Leinster Papers, the British in Ireland - Police Reports 1892-1924 and the 1641 depositions. The collection is housed on level 1 and is indicated with the prefix AS which appears before the location in the catalogue. These items are for library use only.
This is an archive of donated printed material about National University of Ireland, Maynooth and St Patrick’s College Maynooth together with the works of past and present staff. The archive also contains ephemera such as photographs, news cuttings, posters, and programmes. The prefix CC appears before the location number in the catalogue.
The Irish manuscript collection of St Patrick’s College Maynooth is available on microfilm. Collections of Irish manuscripts from the Royal Irish Academy, the British Library, the Department of Irish Folklore, University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Cambridge University Library and the Franciscan Library, Killiney are also held. The collection is housed on level 2 and is for library use only. There are two microform reader/printers on level 1.
Maps are held in map cabinets in the map area on level 2 and in the Special Collections reading room. They can be requested through Special Collections and will be made available on the next day.
The pamphlet collection is made of Irish language and Catholic Truth Society pamphlets.
