Dr Rebecca Maguire
Biography
Dr Rebecca Maguire (CPsychol.) joined the Department of Psychology at Maynooth University in September 2017, and has been Associate Professor since October 2020. After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Psychology, Rebecca completed an MA and a PhD in Cognitive Science at University College Dublin. Prior to taking up her position in Maynooth University, she was Programme Director of Psychology at the National College of Ireland.
Rebecca has a number of research interests which span various disciplines, however her primary research agenda is focused on health and wellbeing in chronic illness. Since 2014, Rebecca has been involved in a number of projects examining the quality of life of cancer survivors and their caregivers, with a more recent focus on the impact that multiple sclerosis can have on patients and family members. She has a particular interest in how cognitive appraisals and representations of health influence wellbeing in chronic illness, along with a keen interest in how best to foster greater PPI (Public and Patient Involvement) in research.
At Maynooth University, Rebecca was the inaugural chair of the Department of Psychology's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (2019-2023) and is current Year 2 manager of the undergraduate psychology programmes.
