On 24 October 2024 Professor Delia Ferri participated in the 2024 Annual Conference of the National Disability Authority (NDA) of Ireland. The NDA is the independent statutory body, providing evidence-based advice and research to Government on disability policy and practice and promoting Universal Design. This year the conference focused on ‘Promoting the participation of disabled people in cultural life, recreation, leisure and sport in Ireland – UNCRPD Article 30’. The conference was opened by an address from Anne Rabbitte T.D., Minister of State with responsibility for Disability, Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.
Professor Ferri presented some of the findings of her ERC-funded research project ‘Protecting the Right to Culture of Persons with Disabilities and Enhancing Cultural Diversity through European Union Law: Exploring New Paths - DANCING’ within the first panel of the conference on international and regional perspectives. She discussed barriers to, and enablers of, cultural participation of persons with disabilities. She also examined the role of EU law in the implementation of Article 30 CRPD.
