David Mangan spoke at the International Society for Labor and Security Law in Rome about the legal implications of digitalisation. He spoke about AI in law journal publishing (representing the European Labour Law Journal) on a panel that included other law journals as well as Wolters Kluwer publishing. He spoke on the challenges from a journal perspective regarding the use of AI in legal publishing. David also spoke on a panel entitled Freedom and Autonomy in Labour Law: A Transatlantic Approach which was organised by Frank Hendrickx (KU Leuven) and chaired by Janice Bellace (Wharton). In this panel, David set out how the right to disconnect has a narrow scope (it being limited to protecting employees from punishment when not responding to persistent contact by their employers outside of normal working hours). David studies the areas of employment/labour law and private law obligations (tort and contract), with a focus on the impact of information technology in these areas. David is a member of the editorial board of the European Labour Law Journal. He is co-editor of the Global Workplace Law & Policy blog. Recent publications include “Privacy and Labour Law Traditions” in Frank Hendrickx and Christina Hiessl (eds) The Meaning of Work (Wolters Kluwer) and 'Why is freedom of the press adjunct to freedom of expression in Canada?'. At the School of Law & Criminology, David leads the joint degree program with UC Lyon, as well as the Technology Law & Policy Centre. He is a Ph.D. supervisor with Advance CRT which is funded by the Irish Science Foundation. Additionally, David is a Visiting Professor at the University of Warsaw and at the Marco Biagi Foundation at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia
