Department of Education Faculty win Large European Funding
Dr Diarmaid Hyland and Dr Tom Delahunty of the Department of Education, Maynooth University, have recently been awarded ERASMUS+ KA2 funding worth €400,000, as members of an international consortium conducting research in Teacher Education.
The proposal, which relates to Lesson Study in Initial Teacher Education, will enhance work already underway in the Department and aligns directly with The Maynooth University Strategic Plan and its vision to be a University of excellence, opportunity, and impact.
The project team, involving Maynooth and eight universities in the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland, Cyprus, and Estonia, will develop key outputs including a pioneering blueprint for Teacher Educators to incorporate Lesson Study in their Teacher Training Programmes.
As part of the research, teacher educators and student teachers from Maynooth will have the chance to travel to Europe to take part in an Immersive Lesson Study Programme along with colleagues from the partner institutions. This week-long programme will afford our delegates the opportunity to observe classrooms in The Netherlands, network with their peers from across Europe, and learn about the local culture.
The project begins this September, with Maynooth occupying a central role throughout as the only Irish HEI involved. The blueprint, and all outputs will be localised and freely available on the project website.
