Upon invitation of Prof. Ilenia Ruggiu, Full Professor of Constitutional Law of the University of Cagliari, Professor Delia Ferri visited the University of Cagliari (Universitá degli Studi di Cagliari), Italy on 7 and 8 October 2024 and delivered two seminars.
On 7 October, Professor Ferri gave a seminar on ‘The Rights of Persons with Disabilities: International Framework and Federal Trends’ (I diritti delle per persone con disabilitá: Quadro Internazionale e Trend Federali) in conjunction with Prof. Irene Spigno, Academia Interamericana de Derechos Humanos de la Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila to students and academic staff at the Faculty of Economics, Law and Political Sciences University of Cagliari. Professor Ferri outlined the global surge development of the rights of persons with disabilities and highlighted the core tenets of United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). She then discussed federalising trends in EU disability law in dialogue with prof. Irene Spigno who focused on the Mexican experience, highlighting some of the findings of the volume ‘Federalism and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The Implementation of the CRPD in Federal Systems and Its Implications’ (Hart 2023) co-edited by Delia Ferri, Francesco Palermo and Giuseppe Martinico.
On 8 October, Professor Ferri gave a seminar for academic staff at the University of Cagliari on her experience of Principal Investigator of a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator project and discussed her research ‘Protecting the Right to Culture of Persons with Disabilities and Enhancing Cultural Diversity through European Union Law: Exploring New Paths - DANCING’. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Ilenia Ruggiu and opened by Prof. Luigi Raffo, Full Professor of Electronic Engineering and Associate Dean for International Research Projects (Delegato del Rettore in materia di progetti di ricerca internazionale).
