1. New Incoming Student:
Please use the online payment system TransferMate to pay the relevant fee due. Payment can only be made through the TransferMate online system unless an alternative payment method is agreed with the University Fees & Grants Office. With this online system (TransferMate), you can make all payments including your deposit, tuition fee, and medical insurance.

Step 1:
• Register your payment on Transfermate
• Choose Wire Transfer or Credit Card
• Confirm your personal details and “Save and Confirm” your payment to complete the booking.
Step 2:
If you are paying via bank transfer, please make your payment to the instructed bank account.
(NOTE: Brazilian, Chinese, and Indian students will be required to send supporting documents. Please follow the instructions provided.)
• If paying by credit card, simply enter your card details.
Step 3:
• Once funds are received, payment is transferred to Maynooth University Fees & Grants Office.
• Confirmation of payment is emailed to both you and Maynooth University Fees & Grants Office.
2. Current Registered Progressing Student of the University:
Have the option to pay either via the Student Web Portal OR via Transfer Mate Global Payment. If you require an individual Invoice - you can do so by completing the External Funding/Employer Funding form - an Invoice will be processed according to the information supplied therein.
Group payment by an official provider or agent is also possible - once agreed with the University International Office the Bulk External Funding/Employer Funding Form can be completed. Invoices will be processed according to the detail supplied online.
- If you are in receipt of any sponsorship please ensure to forward a copy of your sponsorship funding letter to [email protected] along with your student number.
- Once received the information will be uploaded onto your student fee account and the relevant Invoice will then be processed.
- If you have paid a deposit, this will be refund once the University receives full payment of the fee liability due from your funding body.
The University accepts no obligation to refund fees once a student has registered. Students remain liable for fees for the period of registration upto the date they officially withdraw from University by contacting the University Records Office.
Students who wish to withdraw for any reason after registering at University must contact the University Records Office - part of this procedure involves an exit interview with the University Fees & Grants Office whereby any fee implication and / or refund will be discussed in detail.
- Deposits = 100% non-refundable.
- VISA refusal - Proof of Visa refusal is required i.e. letter from the relevant Government Department or Visa Office is required = 100% deposit non-refundable. Tuition fee payment will be refunded if a student is not registered pre Visa refusal.
- Student is offered, accepts and does not register = 100% deposit non-refundable + 10% Administration fee charged on balance of tuition fee paid.
- Student registers and officially de-registers on or before 31st October = 100% deposit non-refundable + 10% Administration fee charged on balance of tuition fee paid.
- Student registers and officially de-registers between 31st October & 31st January = 100 % deposit non-refundable + 1st Semester fee non-refundable.
- Student registers and officially de-registers after 31st January = No refund due.
Please note that the Fees & Grants Office will advise on what method of rebate will be used, ordinarily:
Transfer Mate Refunds - if your original payment was paid to the University via TransferMate, your refund will be processed back via TransferMate.
Electronic Fund Transfers - once registered, you can submit your Irish bank account details online by logging onto the Student Web Portal - if you are entitled to any refund or you have been requested to do so by either the International or Fees & Grants Office.
Please note that refunds are processed twice monthly (requests received and approved by close of business on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month are processed thereafter within a 10 day timeframe).

- Once you have received your student I.D. number and personal password - you can log onto the Student Web Portal - choose Fees & Grants Menu - choose Student Bank Account Details and enter your Irish IBAN Bank Account.
- Once the payment is received into the University Irish Fee Bank Account (payments are usually received per semester)- funds for your tuition fee liability will be deducted (per semester) and the remainder will be given to you by EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) if you account goes into credit. If the funds do not cover your full fee liability you are required to pay the balance due in full by logging onto the Student Web Portal - choose Fees & Grants Menu - choose International Office and pay same.
- Once the EFT transfer is processed you will receive an email to confirm same to your Maynooth University email address.
- EFT related queries can be sent directly to [email protected].
- Please ensure to open an Irish Bank Account as soon as possible. Please see Electronic Fund Transfer procedure for details on how to submit your bank details.
- Once you have received your student I.D. number and personal password - you can log onto the Student Web Portal - choose Fees & Grants Menu - choose Student Bank Account Details and enter your Irish IBAN Bank Account.
- Once the payment is received in the Fees & Grants Office - it will be brought to the Bank for conversion to Euro and lodged to your student fee account.
- Funds for your tuition fee liability will be deducted and the remainder will be given to you by EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer).
- Once the EFT transfer is processed in full you will receive an email to confirm same to your Maynooth University email address.

- International Protection Scheme
•The International Protection Student Scheme (for Further and Higher Education Students) provides financial grants for students who are in the protection system or at the leave to remain stage (but not deportation order).
•SUSI will manage the application process and the paying of maintenance and fees to successful applicants on behalf of DFHERIS.
I have registered but I wish to retire/defer/withdraw from my course.
- Any student who wishes to retire/defer/withdraw from their course must officially contact the University Records Office. Part of this process involves a student having to have an exit interview with the University Fees & Grants Office where any future fee implications will be discussed in detail. Queries can be directed to [email protected]. Please note that there is no automatic entitlement to a reduction or rebate of fees on medical grounds. Once a student registers on a course they immediately become liable to payment of fees for the period of registration.
How do I apply for an Academic year receipt for the fees I have paid?
- You can print an Academic year receipt for the 2021/22 Academic year onwards yourself by logging onto the Student Web Portal - go to the Fees & Grants Office menu - choose Revenue Tax Certificate option from the drop-down menu. If you require an Academic year receipt for any year prior to the 2021/22 Academic year you can apply for same online here and it will be sent to you by return post/email. Students (currently including UK nationals) who meet the criteria for the Exchequer Free Fees Scheme (FFS) set out here will qualify for " Exchequer Free Tuition Fees".

DFHERIS (31/8/23) - HEA Temporary Tuition Fee Support Scheme for Displaced Persons (Ukraine) in the 2023/24 Academic year - Criteria.
The Higher Education Temporary Tuition Fee Support Scheme for Displaced Persons (Ukraine) in academic year 2023/24 is an administrative scheme of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
For the purposes of this scheme, Displaced Ukrainian Students are persons that qualify for protection under Section 60 of the International Protection Act 2015.
The Temporary Tuition Fee Support Scheme applies in relation to the provision of EU tuition fee supports for eligible students attending approved higher education full-time undergraduate and full-time postgraduate courses.
To be eligible under this scheme, students must meet the criteria set out hereunder and to any further criteria or amendments which may be advised to the eligible institutions.
1 Nationality and Residency Criteria
- 1.1 In order to be considered for eligibility under this scheme and subject to compliance with the other conditions of the temporary scheme, a student must be:
- a person in respect of whom a permission to reside in the State has been granted by the Minister for Justice pursuant to section 60 of the International Protection Act 2015;
- present, and residing at an address, in the State, and
- attending, or intending to pursue, an approved course in an approved institution in the 2023/24 academic year.
2 Determination of Eligibility
- 2.1 The approved higher education institution attended will determine eligibility, please complete the relevant online Maynooth fee assessment form (EU tuition fee form Over 23 OR EU tuition fee form Under 23) & provide supporting documenation, https://www.maynoothuniversity.ie/student-fees-grants/quick-link-forms-documents
- 2.2 An eligible student may not, at any one time, qualify for EU Tuition fee supports under this scheme for more than one approved course of study.
- 2.3 EU tuition fees supports will only be paid in respect of students attending an approved full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course at an approved institution.
- 2.4 Tuition fees (undergraduate or postgraduate) will not be paid in respect of students who already hold a postgraduate qualification (Major Award) on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).
- 2.5 Undergraduate tuition fees will not be paid in respect of students who already hold a Level 8 (Major Award) on the National Framework of Qualifications.
- 2.6 Notwithstanding conditions 2.4 and 2.5, subject to compliance with the other conditions of the temporary scheme, students who already hold a Level 6 qualification or a Level 7 qualification on the NQF and are progressing to a related Level 8 course without necessarily having received an exemption from the normal duration of the course, may be deemed eligible for fee support.
- 2.7 For the 2023/24 academic year, students who were eligible for funding support through the Higher Education Temporary Tuition Fee Support Scheme for Displaced Persons (Ukraine) in academic year 2022/2023 may continue to be deemed eligible for fee supports where the student is progressing to the next year of their 2022/23 approved course of study and meet the nationality and residency criteria set out in paragraph 1.1 above.
- 2.8 Students undertaking a repeat year of study on the same course or students who transfer to a new course requiring the student to undertake a repeat period of study will not be eligible for tuition fee funding for the repeat period of study.
3 Tuition Fee supports payable
- 3.1 EU tuition fee supports will be paid directly to institutions where eligible students are registered.
- 3.2 Full Time Undergraduate fees: The full EU tuition fees, including the student contribution where applicable, for approved courses at an approved institution (see Appendix 1).
- 3.3 Full Time Postgraduate fees: EU tuition fees up to a maximum €6,270 for full time postgraduate courses at an approved institution (see Appendix 1).
- 3.4 The scheme only provides for tuition fee supports at 3.2 and 3.3 and does not provide for other fees charged by an institution, for example a student levy or examination fees.
4 Scheme Duration
- 4.1 This scheme is an interim arrangement for the academic year 2023/24 only and will be subject to further consideration prior to academic year 2024/25.
5. Evidence to be provided to support eligibility
- 5.1 When assessing eligibility for this scheme, higher education institutions must be satisfied that the applicant meets the criteria of the scheme. The onus is on the applicant to provide the evidence required by the higher education institution to ascertain eligibility.
