9 March, 2019: Maynooth University has experienced its highest-ever level of first preference applications, with almost 3,600 students selecting Maynooth as their university of choice for the 2019-20 academic year. This figure represents a 7% increase on applications from 2018.
The increases in first preferences are recorded right across the University’s degrees, particularly the broad entry degrees in Science (17%), Arts (16%), Law (29%), and Business (6%). Demand for the University’s primary education degree has risen by 9%. Maynooth University’s Bachelor of Arts continues to have the largest intake and is the most popular course in the country.
Maynooth’s sector-leading growth comes at a time when overall CAO application figures have remained relatively flat, increasing by 1%. This speaks to the success of Maynooth’s new undergraduate curriculum. The new model offers students a level of flexibility in when they choose to specialise, first-year critical skills modules, and opportunities to study across disciplines that are unique among Irish universities. The number of entry-routes into Maynooth University have been reduced in order to streamline the CAO application process and to offer broader courses that allow students to make more informed choices about the best education for their future.
