Geographers from Maynooth University were among the Geographical Society of Ireland's 2014 award winners, announced at the Conference of Irish Geographers in UCD on 9 May 2014. Professor John Sweeney received the 'Contribution to Geography' award; Dr Rory Hearne was the joint winner of the 2014 Book of the Year award for his book, Public private partnerships in Ireland: Failed experiment or the way forward for the state? (Manchester University Press); and Diarmuid O'Connor received a Postgraduate Fieldwork/Travel award to support his attendance at an international workshop. In addition, the GSI recognised the outstanding work of Professor Rob Kitchin, recently awarded with a Gold Medal by the Royal Irish Academy. Over 30 staff, students and graduates from Maynooth University presented papers at this year's conference.
