History PhD student Ben Casey receives IRC Postgraduate Scholarship

Tuesday, October 29, 2024 - 11:45

Congratulations to Ben Casey who has been awarded a prestigious IRC Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship.  Ben is working on a PhD thesis, provisionally entitled ‘Picturing the Irish Professions, 1760-1830’, supervised by Dr Alison FitzGerald.  He is pictured here with President Eeva Leinonen at the prize-giving ceremony held as part of the University’s Research week on Thursday 24 October. Ben was awarded a John and Pat Hume Scholarship in 2023 and is a first-class honours graduate of the History Department’s MA in Irish History.

Ben’s thesis promises to shed new light on how members of the professions were depicted in image and text during a period associated with the commercialisation of leisure and significant developments in the art market.  We wish him all the very best with his research and warmly congratulate him on his success.
