The Conferring ceremony for the Think About Teaching class of 2022 took place in the new Technology, Society and Innovation (TSI) Building on Friday, 18th of November.
It was a fantastic night as family, friends, staff and supporters across the Turn to Teaching community came together to share in the tremendous achievements of the students.
Think About Teaching Foundation Cert is a one year, Level 6 university course for people who have an interest in teaching as a career path. The programme offers pathways for its graduates into early childhood, primary, post-primary, and further education teaching. The programme is funded by the HEA and is a collaborative initiative that is supported by the Department of Adult and Community Education, Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, MU Department of Education, Maynooth Access Programme, Lárionad na Gaeilge, Department of Applied Social Studies, and Maynooth University Admissions Office
The students were presented with their parchments by Maynooth University’s Dean of Teaching and Learning, Professor Alison Hood, who also spoke on the night and congratulated the graduates on their fantastic achievements and wished them well on their various pathway to teaching. Professor Hood also highlighted the broader work and achievements of the Turn to Teaching project over the past five years and the ground-breaking role it is playing in supporting diversity in teacher education.
Think About Teaching has developed into a rich and diverse community of students, staff, schools and community partners, which is committed to widening participation in education and teaching. This was reflected in the conversation that flowed during the night as staff, members of the programme's Steering Committee, and supporters joined the students in conversation about their fantastic achievements and their hopes for the future.
Thanks also to Noel Stapleton, a Froebel student, and his musician colleagues, whose music really added to the sense of occasion and celebration.
