APPLICABLE

Assistive Product List Implementation Creating Enablement of inclusive SDGs (APPLICABLE).

Aim: To propose and facilitate the development of  a framework for creating effective national Assistive Technology (AT) policy and specify a system capable of implementing that policy in Malawi.

Method: An action research and mission-oriented approach with stakeholders and users of Assistive technology in Malawi

Partners: ALL Institute, Maynooth University and Center for Social Research (CSR), University of Malawi

Globally about 10% of the 1 billion people are in need of AT have access to it and in Malawi although 69% of people with disabilities need assistive devices, only 5% have access to it. The aim for APPLICABLE is to facilitate the development of a framework for creating effective national Assistive Technology (AT) policy and specify a system capable of implementing that policy in Malawi. This work is facilitated by an action research group which will look at the current AT delivery mechanism in the country, come up with content for the new AT policy, identify features of an AT system that can implement the policy and look at key features of a national framework for establishing an AT policy and systems that could be used in other countries and contexts.
