When I finished my degree in geography and economcs, I worked in AIB for a year. While working in AIB I also taught geography part time in the evenings to adults who wanted to go back and complete their Leaving Certificate.
I then completed a MSc in Sustainable Development with Dublin Institute of Technology Bolton Street. As part of my MSc I worked with the Dublin City Development Board within Dublin City Council where I gained invaluable experience.
When I completed my dissertation I took a break and went travelling.
When I came back from my travels I went back teaching as a substitute. I decided that it was something I wanted to do long term so I applied to Trinity College Dublin to complete the postgraduate diploma in teaching and I was accepted into the course to train as a geography and business teacher. I have been teaching in secondary schools ever since.
Maynooth University Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting and Department of Law awarded some of my junior business studies students for attaining exceptional results in their state exams.
Students at Leaving Certificate getting the highest grade in the geography state exams and reaching their full potential.
Teaching, planning classes, correcting and reflecting. Organising field trips and co-ordinating the geography department within the school.
Due to the fact I am dealing with people, every day is different which is a good part of the job. It is also nice to be able to work in an area that you are passionate about and that you have an interest in.
The most challenging part of the job is that it can be hard to switch off at times.

Network and make connections as much as possible.
