The 2018 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition
The 2018 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Irish College Students was held in the Gresham Hotel, Dublin on 7 April 2018. 4 students from Maynooth University and their Chinese language teachers took part in the event. Niclas Stenberg and Seik Yan Choong from Maynooth University won The Best Teamwork award.

New Book Published by Faculty
The volume is co-edited by Dr. Zhouxiang Lu, Lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies and Prof. Fan Hong, Professor in Asian Studies at Bangor University. Contributors include Dr Yinya Liu, also of the Maynooth University Department of Chinese Studies, alongside scholars based in the Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, UK and Singapore.

Mandarin Chinese will be on the curriculum for Leaving Certificate students who enter fifth year in September 2020
The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, T.D. yesterday launched the government’s Strategy for Foreign Languages in Education 2017-2026. The Plan sets out a roadmap to put Ireland in the top ten countries in Europe for the teaching and learning of foreign languages, through a number of measures targeted at improving proficiency, diversity and immersion.

Community Education in Practice - Chinese Studies at Dolphins Barn Library
