E-sports refers to competitive tournaments of video games among mainly professional gamers. When the e-sports industry began to take off in the late 1990s, China joined the club and soon became a major player.

3rd Year students arrive in China for their year abroad programme
10 of our BA International students have arrived in China to begin their year abroad programme. Two students opted to study in Beijing, seven students are in Shanghai and one student chose to go to Huaqiao University in Quanzhou a coastal city in Fujian Province in the Southeast of China.

New MA in Chinese Studies commencing September 2016
We are delighted to announce our new MA in Chinese Studies commencing September 2016. This is a one year, full-time taught Masters for who already have a background in Chinese language and culture at undergraduate level. The MA will provide students with an opportunity to specialise in an area of cultural and literary analysis with particular emphasis on the conflict and communication within the Sinosphere (mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau) and between China and the West.

Olympics in Conflicts: From GANEFO to the Rio Olympics Conference May 2016
On 20th May 2016 we welcomed international delegates to the two day conference; Olympics in Conflicts at the Council Room, Maynooth University. The conference was jointly organised by Dr. Lu Zhouxiang, Chinese Studies in the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures and The International Journal of the History of Sport (IJHS).
