The MEd School Guidance Counselling degree is designed to advance the professional development of school guidance counsellors and builds on the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Guidance Counselling (PGDEGC).  This one-year programme involves participation in regular research-support seminars and consultation with supervisors towards the completion of a thesis.

Entry is restricted to applicants who have successfully completed all courses in the one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Guidance and Counselling (PGDEGC) or equivalent, with a grade of at least second class honours, grade 1 standard. Applicants are expected to submit a thesis proposal of no less than 2,500 words that identifies a research issue, situates the problem in scholarly literature(s), and proposes a plan of research.

Minimum English language requirements:

Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study. For information about English language tests accepted and required scores, please see here. The requirements specified are applicable for both EU and International applicants.

This MEd SGC builds on the PGDEGC (Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Guidance Counselling) and aims to advance school-based guidance counsellors’ professional development and research capacity. The programme is recognised by the Department of Education and the National Centre for Guidance in Education as a professional, international qualification in guidance counselling.
