Early Career Researchers Workshop in Forced Migration Law workshop hosted by School of Law and Criminology.

On January 10, 2025, The School of Law and Criminology at Maynooth University hosted the Early Career Researchers Workshop in Forced Migration Law, bringing together emerging scholars and esteemed academics in the field. This event which was funded by the Society of Legal Scholars facilitated critical dialogue on pressing issues surrounding refugee law and human rights.

The program featured presentations by doctoral researchers on topics ranging from refugees’ right to work to the international anti-trafficking framework and legal support for asylum seekers. Senior scholars, including Professors Cathryn Costello, Dallal Stevens, Liam Thornton and Ciara Smyth, provided expert commentary, fostering engaging discussions.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks by Hilkka Becker, Chairperson of the International Protection Appeals Tribunal and recently appointed Adjunct Professor to the School of Law and Criminology in Maynooth University. This event highlights Maynooth University’s commitment to advancing scholarship in forced migration law and supporting early career researchers in shaping the field.
