Student Oisin Davey
I knew early in sixth year that I wanted to study Theoretical Physics, so I looked at the courses available throughout Europe.

Of all the courses available, the Maynooth Bachelor of Science degree MH201 stood out for its variety of excellent pathways. Through this degree, I was able to study Physics & Maths, along with Chemistry & Experimental Physics in first year, before specialising in Theoretical Physics & Pure Maths in second year.

Having this experience in different areas really helped me to land internships in applied sciences, which in turn enabled me to work in CERN, Geneva, last summer (CERN is the European Organization for Nuclear Research, and is one of the world's largest and most respected centres for scientific research).

I'd recommend MH201 to any prospective scientists, as it gives students the opportunity to enter any area of the scientific world. Whether it's research, industry, software, science outreach, education, or finance, you can craft a pathway into any career you can think of!

My advice to any incoming students is to really chance your arm at everything! Maynooth is a beautiful, walkable, community-driven town, and it's incredibly well connected by train/bus. Your time here is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, it's not to be missed. As a science student, your network at Maynooth will be invaluable in future. I strongly suggest you connect with your lecturers and peers. Just by putting yourself out there, so many opportunities will come your way.

For both your life and your career, your connection with your fellow students is absolutely vital, and so I really encourage you to avail of the campus life here. You'll find live music, bingo, quizzes, theme nights, and everything else in Maynooth town every night of the week. There are over 100 clubs and societies to join, and I think you should join any of them which interests you even a little bit. Maynooth is full of surprises, so make the most of it!
