Dearbhla Brady is a fourth-year MH208 Biological and Biomedical Sciences student at Maynooth University, and a Mount Sackville Secondary School, Dublin alumna.
In the MH208 degree, students choose to graduate with either a BSc in Biological Science OR a BSc in Biomedical Science.
- BSc Biological Science graduates pursue careers in research, industry, and teacher training.
- BSc Biomedical Science graduates pursue careers in research, industry or enter graduate entry degree programmes (e.g. medicine, pharmacy, veterinary) or engage in Biomedical research.
I was also honoured to receive the Maynooth University Student Experience Platinum Award and be a Student Skills and Success Ambassador. Finally, I had the opportunity to work as a Research Assistant in the Biology Department and participate in the Alumni Mentoring Programme, which has provided invaluable insights into my career.
I chose Maynooth University for its strong academic reputation and supportive learning environment. The university's emphasis on research and innovation, combined with its commitment to student success, made it the ideal place to pursue my studies.
Outside of academics, I chose Maynooth University because of the vibrant campus community. I was a proud member of the Biology Society, Women in STEM Society, Surf, and Yoga Society- there really is something for everyone in Maynooth! The university's inclusive atmosphere and numerous opportunities for personal and professional development have truly shaped my positive experience here.
I look forward to graduating in October and entering the workforce. I plan to begin my career in the pharmaceutical industry where I hope improve patients' lives by applying my biomedical knowledge to aid the development of novel targeted therapeutics for diseases.
