Gerard Toal,  Oceans Rise Empires Fall: Why Geopolitics Hastens Climate Catastrophe (Oxford University Press, 2024).
Professor Toal will introduce his book and then there will be commentary from Professors Jennie Stephens (ICARUS) and Gerry Kearns (Geography), followed by a response from Professor Toal and general Q&A.
Gerard Toal is an alumnus of Maynooth Geography and Professor of International Affairs at Virginia Tech, USA. Alongside Simon Dalby, another Irish scholar of Geopolitics, Professor Toal developed the field of Critical Geopolitics which has been so productive a field of interdisciplinary inquiry. He is the author of Near Abroad: Putin, the West, and the Contest over Ukraine and the Caucasus (2017), Critical Geopolitics: The Politics of Writing Global Space (1996), and now of this new book about the intersection of Geopolitics with the Climate Crisis.  In conversation with Professors Jennie Stephens and Gerry Kearns.
