Prof Doherty was invited to speak at the Universidad de Sevilla on Nov 9-10 at an international seminar on Collective Bargaining.

The seminar was arranged as part of a project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Employment, through its tripartite body the National Advisory Committee on Collective Agreements (Comisión Consultiva de Convenios Colectivos), on collective bargaining in Europe. The project integrates  both a comparative analysis of the various national systems of collective bargaining, as well as the development of transnational collective bargaining at European level. 

Prof Doherty presented on 'Collective Bargaining in the Ango-Saxon Countries : Ireland and the UK'.
 
Professor Doherty researches widely in the area of industrial relations law and policy and has written and commented extensively on strikes and collective bargaining, including his piece ‘ When You Ain't Got Nothin', You Got Nothin' to Lose.... Union Recognition Laws, Voluntarism and the Anglo Model’, published in the Industrial Law Journal.
 
He is Head of  Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses to all first year law students on  Introduction to Law and Employment Law to BCL/ LLB students.
