Prof Michael Doherty recently attended the 1st Transnational Seminar of a the 2-year EU Commission funded project, DIGILARE (Digitalization of Industrial Labour Relations – Age-old values in a new digital world (DIGILARE 101126503)). The seminar was held in the Universität Wien – UVienna, Vienna on Jun 6-7 2024. Prof Doherty spoke on the scope of various information and consultation directives across the project countries (i.e. whether or not they apply to persons doing work who are not categorised as ‘employees’), working with Prof Marie-Cécile Escande-Varniol (Emeritus Associate Professor of Université Lumière Lyon II) and Prof Jenny Julén Votinius (Professor in Private Law at the Faculty of Law, Lund University).
The seminar was attended by academics and social partners from across Europe.
DIGILARE’s (101126503) goal is to provide a comparative analysis of how national industrial relations systems at company/undertaking level respond to the challenges linked to the digital workplace and to digitalisation of employment relationships, with a view to eventually reinforcing industrial relations structures in Europe. The consortium is led by the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela – USC, the Universität Wien – UVienna, and ASTREES, and the team is composed of 23 researchers, from 15 countries (14 Member States and Turkey).
Prof Doherty is a Full Professor of Law at Maynooth University School of Law and Criminology where he teaches Employment Law to BCL/ LLB students.
