    Students of Maynooth University and St Patrick's College (not for staff members)

    What are the opening hours?
    MONDAY        9.15-12.45    14.00-16.30
    TUESDAY        9.15-12.45   14.00-16.30
    WEDNESDAY 9.15-12.45   14.00-16.30
    THURSDAY     9.15-11.30   14.00-16.30
    FRIDAY            9.15-12.45  14.00-16.30

    I need to see a doctor out of Student Health Centre opening hours, KDoc is available 24 hours a day

    How do I cancel my appointment?

    What do I bring to my appointment?
    Your Student ID card

    How do I check in ?
    Click on the screen in the waiting room and enter your date of birth

    How much is it to attend the SHC?
    There is no charge to attend the SHC, some services such as Blood tests and STI screening carry a charge

    I have no appointment and I am sick, what can I do?
    Phone the SHC and speak to a member of staff

    Blood tests / X-ray

    Can I have a blood test in the SHC?
    Yes, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings from 9am to 10am by appointment only and as requested by campus GP

    How much is it to have a Blood test?
    €20

    Have I to fast for a Blood test?
    Check with the Nurse or Doctor when you make your appointment

    How do I get my results?
    Make an appointment before you leave after having your Blood Test to come back for results. All results are given by the Doctor.
    They usually take 10/14 days

    I think I need an X-Ray?
    Make an appointment with the SHC and you will be referred if needed

     

    Sexual Transmitted Diseases

    Why should I have an STI screening done?
    It is recomended that if you are sexually active you should have an STI check every 10 Months
    Also if you change your sexual partner it is advised to have a screening

    What should I do to make an appointment for an STI check?
    Phone the SHC to make an appointment 01:7083878

    What should I know before I make an appointment for an STI?
    You need to ensure that you DO NOT have a new sexual partner 2 weeks prior to you screening

    How much is it to get an STI check?
    It is €20 .The Student Union in collaboration with the SHC run free testing throughout the year so check on their FB page and Website for dates etc..

    What is involved in having an STI screening?
    MALE--- A male screening involves taking a urine sample (please DO NOT urinate 1 hour BEFORE your appointment)
                      The appointment will take 10/15 minutes 

    FEMALE---A female screening involves a urine sample (please DO NOT urinate 1 hour BEFORE your appointment)
                         A lower vaginal swab
                        The appointment will take 10/15 minutes

    Home STI Screening
    How do I access the home STI Testing Pilot Project for students living in Dublin,Cork or Kerry?

    The aim of the pilot project is to assess the feasibility, acceptability and impact of an online STI service that is integrated with public STI clinics in Ireland.

    Contraception

    Can I get a prescription for Contraception in the SHC?
    Yes, you will need to make an appointment to see the Doctor for your initial prescription
    Thereafter you can see the nurse for repeat prescriptions

    Can I get the morning after pill?
    You can get the morning after pill directly from a pharmacists so no need to attend the SHC

     

    Vaccine

    Can I get my travel vaccine in the SHC?
    Currently the SHC does not offer travel vaccines

    Can I get the HPV vaccine in the SHC?
    You will need to contact your own GP
     

    Dentist

    Can I see a Dentist in the SHC?
    There are no Dental facilities available in the SHC.  Check for local Dentists in Maynooth.

    Confidentiality

    Will anyone know that I have been to the SHC?
    All consultations are strictly confidental,no information is disclosed with out your permission

    FAQ International Students

    Is the Student Health Centre open to International Students?
    Yes the SHC is open to all registered students

    Am I entitled to free health care?
    You can have a  free consultation in the SHC
    Non EU students must have private health insurance
    EU students need a European health card(EHIC) this can be obtained in your home country

    I have an existing illness what should I do?
    Bring a copy of your medical records and contact details of the doctor you have being attending

    What do I do if I get ill outside of hours/weekend?

    What vaccinations should I have before coming to University?
    Ensure all your immunizations are up to date that are recommended from your home country
    You can contact the International office if you have any further querieshttp://international.office@mu.ie

    Will the SHC speak to my family if I am ill?
    All consultations are private but we do recognize when being away from home and falling ill family can be concerned, so with your permission and consent we may need to speak with your family where appropriate.
