The Higher Diploma in Science (Computer Science) MHG58 is a postgraduate course intended for graduates whose level 8 primary degree included 3-years study of Computing. On completion of the course participants would be expected to reach a level of competence equivalent to that of a four year BSc graduate in Computer Science.
Applicants for the course are required to hold a 3-year university degree (level 8), or its equivalent, recognized by the Senate of the University with computing as one of its subjects. (Examples include BA degrees with Computing and degrees where Computing is a minor subject). Graduates with less computing than required are recommended to also apply for the Higher Diploma in Software Development MHG70. Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to an Irish university primary degree level (level 8).

Applicants for whom English is not their first language are required to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study. Applicants who do not have a level 8 primary degree may also have the opportunity to apply through the Maynooth University (RPL) Recognition of Prior Learning route.
