Graduates of Maynooth University who hold a degree level award (Bachelor, Masters, PhD), are Irish citizens and are over 18 years old have the right to vote in the election of members of Ireland’s Upper House, Seanad Éireann.
The Seanad Electoral (University Members) (Amendment) Act 2024 has recently been signed into law. This Act creates a new six-seater Higher Education constituency for Seanad Éireann and extends voting rights to graduates of other designated institutions in addition to NUI and Trinity College Dublin.
To have the right to vote in future Seanad Éireann elections (after 21st March 2025) you must be included in the Register of Electors for the new Higher Education constituency and to be included in this new Higher Education constituency, you must take the following steps:
- Go to www.seanadvoter.ie
- Select whether you are a new applicant or an applicant currently on the NUI register
- Enter your details
- Submit your application
Registration will not be automatic. Any person who would like to be included in the new Electoral Register will need to register through this new portal.
Registration deadline:
This registration process is open now but it closes on 23 January 2025.
