‘The Fulbright Commission is delighted to announce that Dr Catherine Leen, Senior Lecturer and Head of Spanish and Latin American Studies, is the new Fulbright Alumni Ambassador for Maynooth University.
The Fulbright Commission in Ireland annually awards grants for Irish citizens to study, research, teach or lecture in the USA and for Americans to do the same in Ireland. The aim of the Fulbright Alumni Ambassador programme is to have a contact on-campus so that students, researchers & staff can easily access guidance on how to approach their Fulbright applications and easily engage with the Fulbright network.
Dr Leen received a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research at the Chicana/o Studies Centre at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2008. Her current teaching and research interests centre on Mexican and Chicana/o literature and cinema, as well as Argentine and Paraguayan literature and visual cultures. Dr Leen takes up the mantle from Sinéad Murnane who has served as Ambassador at MU for the last two years and contributed greatly to enhanced engagement on campus.’
