Dr Laura Watson has recently published a chapter in the landmark essay collection The Routledge Companion to Women and Musical Leadership: the Nineteenth Century and Beyond, edited by Laura Hamer and Helen Julia Minors (Routledge, 2024). Dr Watson’s chapter is titled ‘Sounding the Feminists: Campaigning for Institutional Change to Support Women in Music in Contemporary Ireland.’ Offering an insider perspective on the work of the gender-equality advocacy collective Sounding the Feminists (STF), the chapter focuses particularly on STF’s partnership initiative with the National Concert Hall, Dublin and critically reflects on attitudes towards women and leadership.
