The Centre for the Study of Historic Irish Houses and Estates (CSHIHE), Department of History, Maynooth University, Republic of Ireland is offering a Doctoral Scholarship in Irish Country House Studies (full-time, fully funded over four years), commencing in September 2024.
The doctoral thesis will be in history, art, architecture, material culture, landscape design, or other area relevant to Irish Country House & Landed Estate Studies. The successful candidate will be registered for the structured PhD programme at Maynooth University and the degree will be awarded by the University. In addition to completing a thesis, the candidate will be expected to contribute to public outcomes (lectures and seminar presentations, exhibitions, publications, conference organisation) over the course of the PhD.
The scholarship comprises a stipend of €22,000 per annum; a contribution to fees, including non-EU fees, up to a maximum of €5,750 per annum; and eligible direct research expenses of €3,250 per annum.
The successful candidate should have either a first class honours BA degree in History or equivalent, or at least a high 2:1 honours in an MA in History or related discipline.
